About Us

Morano is made by Milto Food Products in Panki, Kanpur. Twenty-five packs, one works, and a badge on the pouch that says 1992.

The short version

A namkeen house in Kanpur

Morano comes out of Panki, an industrial pocket on the western edge of Kanpur, where Milto Food Products makes namkeen. The badge on the pack says 1992, and it has been on shop counters ever since.

The range runs to twenty-five packs: mixtures, bhel, sev and bhujia, papdi and gathiya, chiwda and flakes, and the plain roasted things like matar and coated peanuts.

This is not a small-batch operation and we would rather not pretend otherwise. The packs move by the carton and end up on counters right across Uttar Pradesh: the kirana on the corner, the sweet shop near the station, the tea stall that sells two things and nothing else.

What has not moved is what a pack has to taste like when it is opened. It has to be worth the opening every single time, and taste the same in July as it did in December.
